ROUND 3 KNOCKHILL NEWS REPORT & PICTURES

With over a 1000 mile round trip for most competitors, the trip to Knockhill in Scotland for Round 3 of the D1GB proved to be a massive hit with the locals, huge crowds and some outstanding, nail biting battles made this round a most memorable one!

After Tiff's 'Machine Trouble' in Round 1 at Rockingham the 5th Gear guys are back and Tiff has unfinished business!

Round 1 of D1 gets underway at Rockingham!

D1GB kicked off with Round 1 at Rockingham this weekend with a exciting start to the Championship. Held on Sunday, our D1 licensed competitors had been working flat-out to get their machines up to spec and ready in time for the first chance to grab valuable points in the tables.

Fifth Gear's Tiff Needell Round 1 Experience

"We all know you shouldn't try to run before you can walk ... but I did!

Handling the big Soarer with its big turbocharger, big horsepower, big turbo lag ... and small power band was quite a challenge but, if a wall hadn't got in the way and the crank sensor hadn't given up, I'm sure I would have cracked it ... or the wall.

Controling powerslides isn't a problem for me but doing them in certain conditions can be. With the Soarer I had to learn to 'clutch kick' to bring in the power when I needed it - in order to break the traction - and then I needed the handbrake (which was broken) to slow the transition from fast

right to to tight left - which I did manage ... once!

Harder than it looks, in competition conditions practice runs are few and so the pressure is on. Great sport and surely one with a great future."

TV's 5th Gear & Tiff Needell to compete in Round 1 !

Channel 5's '5th Gear ' is set to join the D1GB this Sunday at Rockingham with presenter and former F1 driver Tiff Needell taking to the wheel alongside the 36 current D1GB drivers. Driving a 590bhp Toyota Soarer, Tiff will enter the competition as a provisional Licence holder and will be aiming to finish in the Top 16 to gain his full D1GB Licence. This feature and the event is to be filmed by 5th Gear on the day and will be broadcast on Channel 5 in the summer. A regular to side-ways power sliding and a previous contributor to the UK Drift scene, Tiff will be taking notes and guidance from one of D1GB's top drivers, Julian Smith in order to get to grips with the most powerful car on the grid and to get first hand experience of what being a D1GB driver is all about.

Can Tiff cut it alongside Europe's finest Drift drivers and will he succeed to gain his full licence? There is only one way to find out - get to Rockingham this weekend and see him in action.
